For me, there's little good to say about pop culture in the 90s. This show was a shining bright spot. It was really excellent even though I was beyond it's target demographic. And the music was the best genre of the 90s. I hope Pete and Pete are both still doing well.
what made this show irresistable and and hard to watch was that it was the childhood that i'd always wanted. full of magic and wonder
Easily the best show of the 1990s! It faltered a bit after Artie left, but the special feeling you got after watching it never went away.
It's hard to say that the show jumped the shark when Artie left. The writing quality was just as good after, and fun characters like Pitstain, Endless Mike, Teddy and Nona got a lot more screentime. Still, it wasn't the same without Artie, who was the most surreal part of this surreal show.
I loved this show and I was in my late teens/early twenties when it aired. It showed the quirky world kids often live in. The line I remember most was little Pete saying "Adults have the whole world and now they get our pool' or something like that. Iggy Pop as Ellen's dad. Michael Stipe as an ice cream vendor. This was a great show.
I think the real dilmmema with Pete and Pete is that they waited a long time to finally transition it into a series. The shorts which proceeded it were so wildy imaginative that they could have easily become full length episodes. I'll have to go with season 3 though on this one. The problem with it was that there were excellent individual moments tied into stories which got repetitive and a little boring. I still think they owe it to everyone to finally pull the trigger on getting season 3 out so we could appreciate the stregths Pete and Pete still possessed into its final year
I love this show and still watch the DVDs... it kinda ran out of steam in the final season, but I felt that was because more and more episodes were about Little Pete and he just wasn't always that interesting... but this show was a masterpiece...
What, you didn't know that?

this was one of the best shows i watched as a kid, it seems like the surreal and kooky ones are the ones that stay with me (pete and pete, Eerie indiana, The Oddessy, Bagpus)and this is one of them, the characters were great but i think the writing was very top notch on this show. someone pointed out before that it shows how skewered a little boys perception of the world can be and its so right. strange how big pete narrates it when it seems to be little petes world...
most beautiful episode: the ice cream one.. it drove me mad wondering who he really was, after all their detective work and sleuthing we got no closer.

In it's early going, certainly the best show ever on Nickelodeon and probably one of the top five shows on television. Can you even imagine a character smoking a cigarette on prime-time TV, let alone a kid's show today?
Never jumped and actually the iconic Hunter S Thompson never cameoed, it was just someone with the same name. Here's hoping for Season 3 on DVD.
I agree with almost everyone about the genius of the show. Like many of you it went over my head as a younger kid but in retrospect the show had great villains "Pit Stain" being my favorite.
Whats different about this show is that unlike kids shows today, the characters didnt try to be cool (Kim Possible ugh) or pretend to know everything.
It didn't hurt to have an awesome soundtrack that saw the likes of the apples in stereo and their featured polaris and high powered happy songs like the song "flowers" that played during the wrigley 500.

it depends how you define "jump the shark." does it mean a show loses its dignity? the show was classic, but after artie left, it was only very good. does that mean it jumped?
one thing season three did that the first two didn't was focus more on "endless" mike and nona, who were GREAT characters. i'm GLAD we got to see that. but yeah, it wasn't the same without artie.
