I watched all 3 seasons from the DVD set. While I say it was the funniest tv show I've ever seen, I understand why it was cancelled after 2.5 seasons. Seeing all the flashbacks and references to past episodes, I know it would be impossible to get 1/3 of the humor if I had to watch it once weekly.

As a TV sitcom, it may have jumped the shark after a few episodes.

As a DVD collection, it's brilliant and never jumped the shark.

Some people don't get the Charlize Theron piece. Adding her character is amazingly smart! Incredibly! It shows the intelligence level of family, including Michael, that a mentally challenged person with an accent could fool almost everyone. I love the line from the uncle, "I have problems with you having sexual relations with that man," and Ron Howard says, "So Do I!"

It totally jumped the shark when it became so popular that the guest stars ruled. The subplot with Charlize Theron and Dave Thomas was incredibly stupid as was the storyline with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Liza Minelli on the other hand was brilliant, especially when Buster walked in on her playing poker and smoking with the boys. The show ended at a good time.

What about pasta..let me finish...salad?

Yah,that's the brilliance of this show... Barry does jump the shark. They are saying hey we know about this and in a act of self deprecating humor they get the actor whose scene actually inspires the phrase to do it. Now that is a riot.

Ahen, yes, I would like to point out the obvious, this show jumped the shark literally in the 2nd season. As stated below Barry(aka. Fonzie) jumps over a shark they fished out of the bay. Thinking it has Buster's hand inside(which turns out to be a seals fin).

God what a great show...hopefully the movie gets going soon.

Arrested Development was always a bit surreal, I reckon it got good around the time buster lost his hand. Took time getting used to it but it got funnier

I agree it should have ended just when it did, because it would suck by now. Instead, it's a brilliant blip on the radar screen of US television crap.

the entire third season was ABOUT jumping the shark, trying to get people to watch and letting people who truly loved the show enjoy the most ridiculous things possible.

I've only had the priveledge of viewing season one, but it was hysterical! To bad quality shows like this can't last.

Great show. Never jumped. The episodes with Charlize were among the best. Yes, they were a bit odd, but they fit in perfectly.

How about when Barry Zuckercorn jumped the shark?
