Every time Larry is out somewhere; somebody tells him to leave. What's so funny about that?
I loved the "Producers" finale. I also liked the death/Heaven storyline more than I thought I would. I personally don't think the show has jumped or ever will but I have to say, I cannot stand this whole "pretty, pretty, pretty good" nonsense. Larry David always seemed way to cool to resort to cheap catchphrase comedy. I always thought he was against all that. Sure, "No soup for you", "GORE-TEX!!!" and "You made out during Schindler's List?" are catch-phrases now, but they were only said once. Actually, come to think of it, I guess "Giddy UP!", "Get OUT" and "Hello Newman" were oft-repeated, but to be honest, I expect that from Seinfeld, just not from Curb, that's all.
Seasons one through three are probably the best of CYI. Season four and five were generally the worst in my opinion. Season six was better than four and five, but worst than the first three seasons. I loved the edition of Leon (I don't know the actor/comedian's name). All seasons however have their funny moments, so I can't say the show ever jumped the shark.
I wish HBO would play some re-runs of the first 2 or 3 seasons. It is some of the funniest stuff on television in the last 10 years. I still get nostalgic for it. But this show went downhill after that. The characters became cliches. On Seinfeld, George and Kramer stopped being funny in the last seasons, because their characters were so over the top. Same here, Jeff's wife was hillarious in the beginning but not the end. Still, great show that deserves to be remembered.
CYE is pretty, pretty good! My favorite episode is when Richard Lewis' nurse says that Jeff is small down below and Jeff says that it isn't true b/c she has a big V "huge".
when cheryl and larry got divorced that was it for me. at first i struggled to understand how they possibly got together, but i eventually grew to love them as a couple. the whole plane-crash-tivo-man thing was just upsetting. I found it almost too cruel to be funny
This is the type of the show which I don't think can ever really jump the shark, it's just so naturally funny.

However, it's impossible to top the fantastic episodes the 3rd season had, like the one with Krazee-Eyez Killa and the one with the terrorist attack (that didn't happen). I don't think the show will ever be as funny in its later years as it was in its first few years. But then again, that's to be expected with many shows.
Everyone on that show makes me laugh, from Cha Cha to Oscar the dog. It's a bit of sunshine in my mundane life.
contrary to what a lot of these posts read, the lack of major characters (especially richard lewis) in the sixth season didnt really affect me all that much. lest we have forgotten, the majority of the fifth season revolved around richard lewis, so his lack of participation in the sixth season cant be shunned upon just because larry introduced some new characters into the show. the blacks were hilarious, all of them. especially leon. some of the things he said throughout his tenure in the show were just spot on and i couldnt have asked for a funnier new character, imo.

i agree with cheryl being a bit lackluster though. she provides a good compliment role to larry but she isn't really that funny. she plays a better victim of larry's inadequacies than an actual comedic actor. i guess thats what made her appealing to me. the fact that they were having problems and larry eventually ended up hooking up with the black lady (her name is escaping me), i mean, that was a great ending to the whole thing. especially when larry was on the mic a scene or two prior to that one.

its just a hilarious show and larry david is a downright genius. how can anyone argue that?
I noticed that the episodes that stick out usually as the best of the season are the ones that don't have anything to do with the season arc. I'd love to see some more "season one type" episodes, with a lot less focus on trying to have a theme.
I LOVE THIS SHOW.
I agree that I missed Richard Lewis this season, he wasn't in it enough. I love it when he and Larry get into some kind of awful fight but then forget they're fighting and start discussing something mid sentence They have great chemistry.

I did't think all the black actors were causing problems, I didn't even notice them (as in thinking Oh there's a lot of black actors on the show this season). The Blacks were hysterical though. Leon!!! And he finally got rid of Cheryl who never really appreciated him anyway. She was always telling him he was embarrassing her, let her go to the stupid underwear maker GOOD RIDDANCE.

Sure he makes a goofball every once in a while, but easily the funniest most consistent sitcom besides Arrested Development and (dare I say it) Seinfeld.

THe other thing is, Larry relies very heavily on the coincidence syndrome for his plots, but at least he puts thought and time into them, as opposed to every episode being about someone sleeping with someone else and nobody being able to think about anything but getting some.
I too think it has come close to jumping, and then turned from the ramp at the last second. When Larry has his near death experience, it starts out feeling like a jump the shark moment, but then the death scene and the afterlife scene are so hilarious and fitting that the situation becomes totally redeeming. He did the same thing with the chef who had tourettes, the gags took an entire season to set up, and just when it seemed too tedious to bear, the final scene of the season payed off more than you could have hoped for. It is almost as if Larry David is toying with us, using routine television situations that usually indicate the death of a show to merely set up another great punchline. Such as Producers finale. The show had been draggin on that season, Larry had started to annoy the viewers almost as much as his costars on the show. That season felt like a real jump the shark season, and then the scene with Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft in the bar was the ultimate payback for the viewers for sticking it through till the end. Our faith in the show was rewarded with one of the most brilliant and ironic endings imaginable, and it also sealed Larry's image as a perpetual screw-up who always seems to catch a break. Brilliant almost to the point of annoyance.
Larry started interjecting his obnoxious anti-Republican views on the show.
I don't think it has jumped, but CYE hits a couple of bum noted in every season. The worst I have seen is the episode when Larry's friend Yoshi attempts suicide but Larry and his buddies carry on their poker game. Even Larry couldn't be THAT insensitive. It was ridiculous.
you guys are almost all morons...bitching and moaning about which season is the best and how season 6 sucked...i'll admit the show has been a little bit less believable as of late but its still the funniest show ever...and how about the guy who was crying about how larry isnt likeable anymore cuz he stole flowers and bitched about using his left arm to make phone calls....come on man havent you watched other seasons or what, hes always been like that...he stole his five wood out of a casket for christs sake...anyways i am praying for a seventh season and if not well i give larry david recognition for making me laugh more times than any other person on earth
