They never had a musical episode. I think he meant Crabman's Respect the Meat song from Creative Writing
I've read a lot of recent posts and I agree with most of y'all are saying except that there may be a point most of you are forgetting: this was a strike shortened season. Believe me, I watch A LOT of TV and most of my favorite shows seemed to lack quite a bit of their punch when they returned and Earl is no exception. I think the season finale ended very nicely. Earl got divorced and got his "list" money back and Randy may have a new girlfriend.
I really hope they go back to the original premise in season 4 which is the list. Maybe not every single episode, but most of them. If I hafta sit thru another coma, prison, whatever, then I will have to find something else to watch.

There have been some truly inspired moments of brilliance on this show. Joy is hilarious - I love that character. Very clever writing (most of the time). However, please lose Catalina - she's only on the show to stut her T and A - she certainly can't act, and she's very unfunny.
Sally G,
I didn't record every show so I don't remember a "music show". Which season was it in and what was the title or description of the episode?
Thanks.

The absolutely painful musical episode is still the official "Jump The Shark" moment for this show. Although there had been a downhill slide preceding it, this was the point at which the series went from being at least potentially salvagable to an utter waste of perfectly good celluoid. Apparently everyone involved with the show just collectively said, "Screw storytelling, to hell with logic and character development -- as long as we're filling 30 minutes of airtime with sounds and images, we've done our job." And thus was a musical born.
There have been several excrable Earl episodes since the musical, but none with the same sheer contempt for the viewing audience -- or even the most basic rudiments of entertainment. And while there's other schlock on the airwaves that is as bad as Earl is now, what makes this so disheartening is that Earl used to be a good show. No longer, sadly...

Get rid of Randy and Catalina, both are worthless and not funny in the least. Billie has added absolutely nothing to the show so enough of her already. Make Ralph a regular and give Crab Man and Joy bigger roles! Then maybe the show could last a few more seasons, as of now it is just painful to watch!!
This last season has been terrible. I don't get the totally randomness of put him together with Billie then have her be terrible then have them get divorced. Randy's dumb schtick has gone well past annoying. Frankly, the only thing making this show watchable has been Jaime Pressly. She is just incredibly funny.
Let's go back to season one, episode one to see what made this show so great and that makes it so lacking now. Lines like Randy saying to Earl, as Earl is trying to explain his karma epiphany to Randy "Well, break out them Vicodin and we'll talk about it!" Or the Smokey and the Bandit car episode, also in season one, where Earl tells Randy that he'll always be the Bandit because the Bandit has a mustache, and Catalina says "Hey! My mom could be the Bandit!" It all comes down to the writing. I grew up in a redneck dysfunctional crazy trailer trash family...fly me and a few of my insane relatives out to Cali and we'll save the show!
The episode of Earl and Billie's wedding should've been the last. Everyone ended up where karma wanted them to be.
Does anyone else think they rushed in to Earl and Billie getting married? Think about it; he met her one time (not counting last week's episode and Bad Earl).
I dont think its jumped yet, though the shark is definitely circling. The prison arc wasnt that bad, but I think it went on too long, and Earl was in a coma too long. I agree that if Randy is overused then you might as well change it to My Name is Randy. And there no longer seems to be a point to having Catalina on here. I am curious to see where they go now that Earl has married Billie. I do think they need to get back to Earl trying to do good things, because thats what made the show appeal to me originally.
Earl and Billie getting married is perfect for these two. Alyssa Milano is great in this role.
Catalina as a "new lesbian" was hilarious, especially when she licked Billie's neck.
Creepy, but funny.

I wouldn't say its quite jumped yet. I liked the prison episodes, because they still stuck to the "crossing things off the list" theme and Craig T Nelson was hilarious. I thought the coma episodes had some funny parts, but overall, they weren't that good. I just hope it gets back on track after this.
