i thought this show was funny......then i grew up.
Guys, Family Guy is just stupid...and stupid, uneducated people are the ones who find it "amusing". Well, it isn't-at all. The jokes are Howard Stern shocking, which means they aren't clever, witty or funny at all...just shocking. Totally unsophisticated show....appeals to frat boys and the like...when the story line needs a boost, they ALWAYS default to the farting scat jokes...is this what we've evolved to?
Dan, you have got to be kidding me when you said that Peter is more real than Homer. Hank Hill is the most real but I agree that Peter has more entertaining friends. tricia, jillian and Diane are the hottest and I wish that Seth and the writers would work on Meg and Chris.
The episode "Blue Harvest" ruined that series for me. When it first came back to tv, it was hilarious, then "Blue Harvest" happened and I was horrified that people actually think that's funny. How awful. Family Guy has lost it's charm.
I am completely addicted to Family Guy. This show is like Heroin. Stewie Completely rocks, and almost matches Eric Cartman for pure evil (Cartman's genocidal tendencies put him over the top). Brian is a self righteous liberal bore, but with his Lois obsession, instinctive hostility towards African Americans, and his alcoholism, he is a lot easier to take and much more fun than Lisa Simpson, who has never made me laugh. Meg and Chris are lame, but that kind of is the point I guess. Short of being a hermaphrodite crack whore (Mrs. Cartman), Lois up there with Asian reporter Tricia Takanawa as being among the hottest babes in cartoon land. Peter Griffin is more real than Homer Simpson, and has more entertaining friends than Hank Hill. I mean who would you rather hang out with Quagmire or Boomhauer? No contest.
Gurlfriend, the Meg bashing is cheap and unfunny.
This show gave me ADD. What with all it's witty 'randomness' it ruined me for life. I plan on bringing a lawsuit against McFairlane et al. and I'll be rich and I can sit around all day watching Simpsons (real humor on that show, not wasted on trogs that watch FG) and Futurama.
I don't really like this show cos there are only a bunch of jokes that doesn't make sense...(in a bad way)!!

I still think that South Park rules and is 27 times better that Family Guy!!

Sorry for the easy things that i wrote but i'm italian and i don't know english so much to say perfectly what i think about these stuff..
sorry for the double post but rory, i have checked the ratings for last month and family guy never beat the simpsons in ratings, and even if it did the new simpsons is an absolute sewage so i won't be surprised.

the t organization, yes south park is on cable but it never made it to the top10 ratings even in to cable standards, but as you said it's about quality not quantity
Yes "charlie" the cutaway gags are funny, they are incredibly random and sensless but hey, that's the point of the show. You know what? it all depends on when you got hooked to family guy, if you were a fan of the 1st 3 seasons then you don't like the later ones and vise versa.

You are right I just wrote the ratings jelousy out of spite, however, I think that satiring another show's content is a cheap shot
Rory-

1.Family Guy is on Fox which has millions of viewers because it's not on cable.
2.South Park is on cable...not to mention the show goes into territory that would never ever be permissable on Fox.
3. How many viewers a show has doesn't necessarily dictate it's quality.

But hey, this is what the internet is all about, arguing with people who think they have somewhat of a clue...but they don't whatsoever!!!

Nevertheless, I think both shows have jumped the shark a long time ago although South Park was right on the money about this show's lack of content and character.
If the Simpsons is so funny, then why does Family Guy beat it in the ratings almost every week? South Park never was and never will be funny. Family Guy is on about 7 or 8 times each night, on 3 different networks, can you say that about South Park or the Simpsons? All those DVD's sold proves it's a hit, and all you people cutting it down must be religious idiots. Family Guy rules!
when they made peter retarded and stewie gay just so they could get some cheap laughs.
I have never understood why people hate this show so much, and more strangely, why the hate is usually from people obsessed with South Park. I'd say 30% of the cutaways are bonafide funny, the rest are either so-so or a plain miss but if they make the show that excruciating, why waste so much energy on it all? That's pretty pathetic. Family Guy's not my favorite show, but I watch it occasionally and always end up laughing at least 2-3 times during it. I don't think it's ever jumped the shark, because 1)it's never had enough quality (in the form of strong writing) to suffer a dramatic decline in it, anyway and 2)recent episodes still have me laughing, which is obviously what Seth Mac solely aims for. Lastly, The Simpson's success is responsible for Family Guy's existence, but I never thought it to be a blatant rip-off. I may be wrong, but I've always got to feeling this show was an extreme spoof of ABC's Dinosaurs right down to the creepy baby. Anyway, best part of Family Guy is definitely Stewie and Brian, ironaically the most intellectual members of the family. Their exchanges are priceless.
Rester - The cutaway gags are funny now? About 1 time in 10 maybe, if that. And I seriously doubt that South Park's creators care who gets the higher ratings, saying 'they're just jealous' is laughable.

And the arguments about religion here are silly - put simply, if you want to see satire on religion (or to be precise, organised religion) done well, watch Monty Python's Life of Brian. If you want to see it done clumsily and with all the subtelty of a sledgehammer, watch Family Guy over the last few seasons.
