Bring back Chuck to do the 2009 Gong Show! He's still going strong and looks as good as ever -- he deserves to have his show back!

I was too young to have watched the original, but I do remember the 1988 version. The bad acts are the main draw, and the revival had some "good bad ones." Don Bleu was goofy, and he played along with the absurdity quite well. The show lasted two seasons in syndication, if I remember correctly.
I can't give a fair review of the latest version with Dave Attell on Comedy Central. I watched just one act in which a woman farted music. So the standards have gotten even lower, huh?

Jumped the second my 6-year-old self realized that the person who sang "Feelings" or "You Light Up My Life" while awkwardly strumming an acoustic guitar was automatically the winner.
I mean, come ON. Those were the BORING acts...the ones you went to the kitchen or the bathroom during, occasionally calling out, "Are they done yet?" But they always won over the lady whistling The Star Spangled Banner while juggling torches and pedaling a unicycle.
It just wasn't right!

It jumped in 1998 when it was revived on GSN as "Extreme Gong." What the hell was that? That version was NOT The Gong Show, I don't care what anyone says. At least George Gray went on to do a better show like The Weakest Link. Long live Chuck Barris and the original Gong Show.
One of the funniest shows EVER! I was in high school then, but my mom was an avid watcher of the show as well. Chuck Barris was a fool! I remember one segment when Gene Gene The Dancing Machine came out, and Chuck took off on his dancing slide out of camera range. When he came back he was dancing around so hard, that he was missing a shoe! He then pulled off his jacket and lost the other shoe! It was one of the funniest thing I'd ever seen. Love the bad acts, and loved the fact that an act could hit the jackpot: Cheryl Lynn, anyone?
Ahhh...the 70's!
From Palmetto: [Jumped with] The Embryo Twins. Two guys in only diapers, bonnets, and bibs; inside a gigantic dry cleaning bag "amniotic sac"; with several feet of clothes dryer vent hose "umbilical cord" tossed over the top; singing Paul Anka's "You're Having My Baby".
Why isn't this showing instead of American Idol?

Weird, goofy and occaisonally hilarious! All I can say to those two redneck girls licking down those rainbow-colored popsicles...WILL YOU MARRY ME??
NEVER JUMPED! My favorite act? When an elderly lady came out it a "sexy vampy evening gown" and bopped her hips to the orchestra. Just as she started to sing "Forget your troubles,c'mon get happy..." her FALSE TEETH FELL OUT OF HER MOUTH ONTO THE FLOOR. AAAAHHHHHH!! Hilarious! How can any program that would air this EVER jump? Hello Smithsonian!
When it became obvious it was nt about 'talent' at all..some of better would get gonged and the really bad would not;what they thought was funny was not
I haven't seen this show in years, but it was the funniest show on TV back in the late 70's. I was in high school at the time, and remember howling with laughter with all the antics. The Unknown Comic, Larry the Villian, Gene-Gene The Dancing Machine, and the dubious 'dirty sock' award at show's end.
My favorite moment was the 'Banana Twins', and watching Jaye P. Morgone trying to swallow the gong.
Too funny!

I could not agree more with the last poster. This show should be released on DVD box set. I was around 14 when this show came out. During summer vacations, my friends and I would stop playing outside just to see this show. We were the neighborhood Gong Show cult. Loved the bad acts, would imitate Gene the Dancing Machines moves, and we would clap our hands with Chuck Barris. This show will never be duplicated because of political correctiveness in TV now.
