Something happened in season 4, where the plot just stood still for too long.
For once, there were too many episodes in which nothing happened (like Drip, and The Silent One). They were very clever and funny episodes, but the engaging overall story was absent. It was fun watching Ber trying to sleep, but the audience who tuned in to see what would happen next in his romance with Irene, were left to wonder another week. This started to happen so often, that I guess most people got frustrated, or just lost interest.
Added to that, things were taking too long to happen. Berg and Irene's relationship took the whole season. Ashley's and Pete's was hinted very early on, but nothing actually happened until the last episode; that relationship lost it's window.
Another thing I noticed is that a lot of "big deals" were ultimately inconsequential. First, Pete runs to France because of his feelings for sharon, but then get's over it farely quicly. His relationship with Marty has a very intense buildup in season 3, but once they're together, this character (and relationship) quickly fade into the background. The same happens with Berg's mom.
And since probably no one will ever read this post, I'll go ahead and complain a bit more.
Berg turning into a wimp bothered me a lot. His falling in love with Irene was too much for me. But the moment I think this show jumped the shark was when Irene got over Pete.

Losing the pizza place, and changing the theme music had to be the 2 major shark-jumper moments for this awesome show.

Loved the show it was great!
It made me laugh especially how Pete and Ashley kept going back and forth. I thought the ending was disapointing but I guess that it was the best the writers could do on such short notice.
Also those of you who have asked where you can buy the dvds. They haven't been released officaly but you can buy them from either ebay (I bought a set on ebay they're pretty good quality) or if you don't like ebay then you can find them here: http:/ / www. todvdornottodvd. com/ movie/ comedy/ Two_Guys_And_Girl. html

I disagree. So the show got a few extra characters? Better that than continuing to centre it around three main characters; you need additional characters to allow for Berg, Pete and Sharon to develop. Rather than the show going into decline, it merely showed the development in maturity of the three characters. I personally thought it was nice the way Berg grew from flaky waster to someone with some kind of responsibility, and how Sharon finally committed. As somebody said, them losing the pizza place wasn't representative of the show's decline, but a mark of how they were finally growing up. And characters like Johnny and Irene were far more likeable than the irritating Melissa.
This is one of the best sitcoms ever. I watched it when it originally aired and now I'm back into it -via youtube as it isn't on TV or on DVD. I love that they brought in an outside love interest for Sharon. It would have been a bit melodramatic if her love was Pete or Berg. And, as aimless as Berg was, he was also smart with ease, so, Dr. is not so hard to buy. Although, whoever pentioned prereqs has a point. Ashley and Pete's zingers were great. Most of all I loved Berg and Irene...both so goofy...do perfect for each other. The show started out good and just got better. A talanted and hilarious cast.

I liked this show a lot. There were a few episodes I didn't like but a majority of them I liked 'em cause they always made me laugh love Ryan Reynolds
I never really watched the show until my husband and I were stationed in the Middle East and it was on a cable tv channel there. The first episode I viewed was the Halloween episode where everyone but Johnnie and Irene got there brain switched. It was so funny! I became a regular after that. Unfortunately, I never got to see how every episode or how the show ended. When I returned to the States I found the show on the WE channel. Again I still haven't seen every episode and would love to be able to buy all of the seasons on dvd. I personally thought every season got better. It never became stale or predictable. I loved the Johnny character and though he and Sharon made a cute couple. I didn't care much for Irene at first but she began to grow on me. Ashley would have been funnier if she hadn't gotten so mean. Too bad they dump shows that really are fresh and funny and replace them with crap like reality shows.
I don't think that this show jumped the shark, per se, but I do think that it was kind of set adrift while the writers scrambled to figure out what to do with it. It may not have been the most popular show on television when it originally aired (I didn't watch it at all until it hit syndication), so I'm sure that the writers were under pressure to light a fire under the ratings. Suddenly, the cast members are all dating each other (Marti to Berg to Pete to Nomar after Nomar breaks up with Ashley who'd just come off of Berg only to see Ashley end up with Pete who finally goes on a date with Irene (why?) only to have her end up with Berg). What was the point of all of that? It was as if the ratings were so bad that the writers assumed that no viewer would watch the show from week to week. As a result, they wrote the show with poor memory. People got together that made no sense together based on their histories. The craziest coupling was Pete and Mrs. Bergen. I have lots of friends and though a couple of them have had very attractive mothers, I'd never be interested in any of them. This was such a stupid idea that I'm sure that Cheryl Ladd (Berg's original mother) couldn't go along with it - and suddenly Bo Derek is in the role. Personally, I think that Cheryl Ladd is cuter. At this point, the cast was just swimming around in the shark tank waiting to be devoured by mediocrity.
Apparently, the writers have never been to Tufts University, allegedly attended by the two guys and the girl. The Tufts football team, the Jumbos, plays their homecoming games on campus. Foxboro Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, could probably hold the total turnout for a homecoming game many, many times over.
I used to refer to this absolute waste of time as "Two Guys, a Girl, a Pizza Place, and Zero Entertainment Value." In fact, that made-up title is a hell of a lot funnier than anything ever seen on this stupid show. How many seasons did this stay on the air? One would have been too many but I think they managed to squeeze out at least three. I could actually read the other postings to try to figure that out but that would necessitate far too much time and effort on my part. Especially when pertains to dreck like this show.
