The first series is the best, and certainly the easiest one to watch now I'm older, it gets toned down a bit when taken over by Engel.

After first series Sam is gone to be replaced by Amy which is a very poor trade, I thought she was one of the best in the first series, though Kristy is quite good but should be team manager and Mary Beth cheerleader.
Teddy's good though out of the newer characters, though I did quite like Michael Maxwell in the original and Chris and Josh are pretty much the same, as is the second Michael, but Earl's hilarious and should have definitely not been replaced.
Vince is too obnoxious for words, though occasionally funny with it (like when told of the silent treatment by the girls 'well I don't care anyway girls' lips are for kissing not talking') but Danny was already doing a good job of being the funny character and doesn't need a stupider one added in as it throws the balance. Also kind of uncredible him walking straight into the basketball teams when a lot of the subs from the first series are better players.

After they change it all after season 3 it kind of loses something, especially with Danny, Fuller and Teddy gone though this is kind of saved by Rico, who is hilarious (especially when he hires his cousin to pretend to be his girlfriend) and it really isn't the same. He then leaves after season 4 which makes the last 2 seasons the worst, and they are kind of ridiculous as Mary Beth and Julie have been there for 6 years by the end, but the show wouldn't work without those 2 (especially Julie, who's clearly the star of the show)
Jumped day one
Hang Time was Da Bomb, the 1st time I saw it, I was like WOW, b/c this was a good show, Julie Connor was the star of the show and Mary Beth Pepperton was like the 2nd Banana to the show and was also funny.

The 1st Season was the best, but the 2nd Season was so cool, Season 3 was OK, but not better than Season 2, Season 4 was pretty good b/c of Rico, Hammer and Silk, and as for Seasons 5 & 6, they were TERRIBLE, I mean, Season 1 had a unique cast and plus, Reggie Theus was not only the mentor, but he knew basketball better than Dick Butkus and then, during Seasons 2 & 3, he became more like the Father Figure to the Team, now Mark Fink was the Producer of the Show, until Season 2 when Peter Engel Producer of Saved by the Bell, California Dreams and CityGuys took over, it was a lot of changes, but they had Josh Sanders, Teddy Brodis and Vince D'Amata, but then, Mary Beth became the Team Manager and Amy Wright was THE perfect Cheerleader and she was BETTER than Kristy, b/c Kristy was too girly girly and too perky, but when Season 3 came, then it got bad b/c Amy and Josh were written off the show, I will never know, b/c Josh and Julie were THE perfect couple, and as for Dick Butkus, he started off good, but then he got too grumpy telling people to shut-up which was something that Reggie Theus would NEVER do on the show.

But when abc family brought back the show, they didn't show the 1st 2 Seasons of Hang Time and I was disappointed.

I hope that NBC-Universal or whoever owns the rights to this show shows it on DVD, b/c I want the 1st 2 Seasons b/c they were the best.

Another one of these god awful "Saved By the Bell' clones that seemed to pop up like local Wal Marts around T.V. in the late 90s.

This was ones gag was to try to include basketball as a form of legitimacy to the show.

Instead of providing legitamacy to this show it just showed how obviously ludicrous it was in concept.

For some inane reason Reggie Theus decided to soil what was once a respectable basketball career by starring in this atrocity. But then again it couldn't be any worse than than playing one game with the expansion Orland Magic (or was it the Timberwolves??)

I think if given a choice I would rathere see my cherished ex-athletes do something more produtive in their off years, like murdering the wives or ex-lovers or fathering lots of kids out of wedlock.

Incredible as it may seem the one person who came out of this travesty a legitimate Hollywood actor was the fat black kid who was treated about as fairly on the show as Screech was on Saved bu the Bell..
The show jump day one
This show was a fun thing to watch in early adolescence...until we got to be about 14 or 15 and realized that the characters were about 23 still playing high school athletes.
This one episode, the redhead cheerleader makes friends with "dregs" or goths. This upsets Julie and Mary Beth at first, but as soon as the redhead gets beat up, Julie and Mary Beth acts all concerned from then. Mary Beth even makes a speech on how "we all need to get along". I hate it when shows get preachy.
This show jumped because first of all Julie plays six seasons for Deering, which means she is incredibly stupid and probably illegally playing because I think you are only allowed 4 years of varsity eligibility. The other reason is that the show fluctuates one of two ways, which I am not sure of: (1) If you are friends with the Julie and Michael, you become a starter or (2) If you are starter, you become part of the gang. I just saw the beginning of the 4th season (I think) yesterday and they do a nice job of explaining the loss of Teddy and Vince although neither are mentioned as graduating the prior season, but the new cast all of sudden is best friends with the cheerleader, Mary Beth, Julie and Michael. It's nice to see so much coherence on a team, but wouldn't be more interesting and more realistic if some of the players didn't get along with each other like they didn't in the first season.
I think it jumped when Chris (the white guy) got cornrows. Or was it the black guy. And yes L-Train was about 35 when this show was shot. This was actually a cut above those TNBC shows; the actors were far superior. But they got defeated by the megalomaniac who was in charge of the production. I was one of the writers and yes, the above posters guessed it, Peter Engel - the impresario of this and SBTB, Hang Time, etc. was a completely hands on old, conservative Jew for Jesus (although actually from NYC) who crushed any creativity, edgy thought, hilarious joke, sexy attitude, etc. WE TRIED.
