Hey Arnold was amazing the dude below me got it perfect, at the time I didn't relize what it was really talking about, but watching it now I get it
I enjoyed this show when I was younger because it didnt make me feel like a dumb kid as the rest of the era's cartoons did.A great deal of the things that happened could happen in real life.I liked the cultural diversity it displayed and accepted.
Thinking back, one of my favorite episodes was the one where Harold was afraid to have his Barmiztva because he didnt want to be a man and not a kid anymore, but Arnold showed him he was infact ready.
It made kids feel like it was okay to be who you are (Stinky was a farmer,Harold was Jewish, Helga had problems at home, Phobe was interacial, ect.)
A kid show or not, it was very smart and well written. I commend it, and I really enjoyed it.
Best kid show of all time.

A show that for me just almost, just almost jumped the shark but never did.
Hey Arnold! stopped at just the right time... no at the perfect time.
THE SIMPSONS should take a cue from Hey Arnold and lie down before they get horridly bad.
The Hey Arnold! movie cannot be any worse than the hype The Simpson's Movie was.
To bad MTV/Viacom gets it's ass kissed for anything, even when they fail to realese a Hey Arnold! DVD set.
P.S.
Why Simpsons & Arnold
Craig Bartlett had a little help from a family in law... Matt Groening.
In short Viacom's cancelation of the show saved it from the sharks.

I don't think hey arnold ever jumped the shark. the movie was pretty bad, but the show still ruled the world! I just wish they could have done a formal series finally. They were supposed to, I've been told, but Nickelodeon pulled the last couple of episodes. I miss that show so much.
hey arnold never jumped the shark. Nickelodeon jumped the shark by cancelling such a great show.

Hey Arnold never jumped. It was such a sweet show, and it was hilarious. I can't get enough of Arnold's grandmother.
But what I didn't understand was that they lived pretty much in the ghetto but nothing bad ever happened. It was the kids were ruling.

i love Hey Arnold, it was one of my favorite shows on Nick. It makes me mad that Nick took it off and totally ruined it by making the creator do that movie which was originally supposed to be the last two episodes of season 5. I wish they would put it on DVD or Nick would show it and some of the other nicktoons from the 90's again.
I am 13 and love love this catoon. Some say even adults watch certain cartoons. But i will get stragit to the point what is Arnolds last name and Ive never heard what really happend to his parents.I really wonder why he never aged.
oh yeah whoever wrote on the upper right hand side that hey arnold ended in 2001 is wrong!!!! you remember the movie??! well yeah, probably not an average half-hour episode, but is still part of the series and it didn't come out til 2002. but the movie wasn't the end of the series cuz according to wikipedia.org, more new episodes were shown til 2004. so hey arnold ran from 1996 to 2004, NOT 1996 to 2001...........that would be the jamie foxx show dumb butt!!!!
yeah just noticed today that nicktoons network reruns hey arnold on a five-days-a-week basis but why do they have to show it at a time where all the big fans of the show, im assuming you guys are teenagers and adults now since hey arnold is a 90's show, are at freakin school!!! i mean, nicktoons network can keep a rerun for that time slot but add another at like five or six in the afternoon. sure, the n gives a rerun of all that too early in the day (8 in the morning i think), but at LEAST they rerun the damn thing in the afternoon for the kids couldn't watch in the morning cuz they were either getting ready for school or are already AT school. so yeah, if nicktoons network SERIOUSLY doesn't rerun hey arnold on a time other than 11am on weekday mornings, somebody tell them to PLEASE DO!!! weekday afternoons, weeknights, ESPIACELLY the weekends would be solid!!!
Hey Arnold might've jumped the shark during the later seasons- you know, when they started repeating the "Helga loves Arnold and has to do something drastic to hide her secret" episodes in millions of different ways, when Arnold became less of a kid and more of a saint. But really, I love this show and always will. Ok, so it could be a little cheesy sometimes, and let's face it, the movie shouldntve been a movie in the first place. But MOST tv shows and cartoons jump the shark at one point or another. Otherwise, where do they end? WHY would they end? Overall, Hey Arnold was an amazing, hilarious show with amazing, hilarious, loveable characters. Watch it in its first two or three seasons. They'll make any day brighter. :D
anybody who thought hey arnold jumped at some point is a douche that was one of the best shows nickelodeon had. it stands as the second longest running nicktoon for the network at eight years, behind rugrats which ran for fourteen years i think. but anyway, someone HAS to write something to the n or nickelodeon to either rerun the show or put it out on dvd it was just unlike any other animated series for kids that ive seen. most of them have nothing but immature and sometimes disgusting humor but this show knew how to balance the humor and how to balance the drama. yes i said it!! you know there were some dramatic moments in hey arnold where you thought "is this REALLY a nickelodeon show???!!!" but yeah i think i practically idolized gerald's (arnold's best friend, the black guy lol TALL ass cylinder afro) hairstyle and him and arnold's hand greeting you know when they hold their fingers together and have their thumbs parallel to each other and then they move them back and forth a couple of times with that cool sound effect. but yeah, helga was a bitch never liked her if she liked arnold she could've just told him i mean her bullying was alright for a while but then it just got to the point where it was like "OMFG HELGA JUST STOP BEING A MEAN ASS AND TELL HIM!!! HE'S JUST HATING YOU MORE AND MORE THROUGH YOUR BULLYING!! ITS NOT WORKING!!" and i think it was the movie where helga confessed i don't know but this show DEFINITELY needs to brought back to tv or on dvd. maybe dvd in seasonal sets!!! omg that would be sick!!
Just want to say
The show never really jumped the shark or anything. I started watching the show when I was like 9 and I'm 17 now. Hey Arnold! was a great show because it managed to mix humor with a relative plot. I mean, Arnold's Christmas was the most touching, heartwarming story I ever saw on TV, while others like Oskar gets a job were so funny. ("You keep the money")
There were very few filler eps, and even the animation was good for its time.
And finally, I didn't really like Lila, but y'all could cut her some slack. She kept Helga's secret in School Play, and she didn't start the love triangle, Helga did! But her way of talking really got on my nerves.
Anyway, Arnold was a great show because it had a depth to it. All the characters, from Oscar Kokashka to Rhonda Lloyd, could be sympathized with. There were plenty of characters who had their own episodes, and I think a lack of focus on Arnold after the 3rd season was a good decision. I mean, how many stories can one come up about a football head? I think that the show kind of stagnated in the middle, but by the 4th and 5th seasons it got back on track. And all of the episodes were entertaining, even to a teenager. I might come off as obsessive, but HA! was a real classic '90s shows. I'll never understand why Nick took it off the air.

hey arnold is by far one of the best cartoons ever created. i love the "what's opera, arnold?" episode in particular, even though i've seen every episode many many times. i'm trying to find a ***** of that episode in good quality so that i can save it to my computer and possibly put it on my ipod. if anyone has it in a quicktime format, please comment back!!!
Hey Arnold! was my favorite show in the late 90’s. I was about the kid’s ages when it was on, and now I’m in high school. I still watch the re-runs on Nicktoons Network (with help from a DVR of course). But I agree with most of the people here, bring it back on to Nickelodeon, even if just on the weekends, but bring it back (re-runs at least!). All these new cartoons have got to be the stupidest I’ve ever seen. Only Jimmy Newtron, Spongebob, and Fairly Odd Parents can shake a stick to the old shows. Has anyone else noticed that 90% of the time (with the exception of Teen Nick) Spongebob is the only cartoon left on Nick? I think that show is the reason for the decline of all the old ones. Don’t get me wrong, I like Spongebob, but don’t bombard us with it! I think Nick should seriously consider bringing the old shows back, especially Hey Arnold! I mean, it worked for The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and Scooby-Doo. Who’s to say it won’t work now? Now that my ranting is done, I’ll talk about the show.
Some of the weird things in the show: Almost half of the characters had unibrows, or no chin. The city itself has a “Brooklyn Bridge” but is located in Washington State. It has British history for supposedly being located in the North-west. There’s hardly any crime or emergency when the kids are around, pretty weird for a “big city”. With the exception of the overpass, where’s all the traffic? How long do they stay in the 4th grade? I mean in one early episode it was in June, and then in a later episode it was back in November. The buildings around Arnold’s house change nearly every episode. The kids must know the uptown pretty good to be able to get on a bus and arrive at their destination, every time! Most of the characters have uncommon names. Now I shall ask my questions.
1. Does Arnold love Helga back?
2. Will Helga ever tell him and not deny it?
3. Where will he live when his grandparents die?
4. What is Arnold’s last name?
5. What city do they live in?
Now I shall answer my own questions, and see if you agree.
1. Some episodes hint at the possibility, if it’s true, the feelings are suppressed in his subconscious.
2. I believe so, because at the end of the episode “Married”, it shows them…married. So she told him, eventually.
3. According to my calculations, if his grandpa dies at 91, and he’s 81 in the series, Arnold will be 19, and legally, an adult.
4. Revealed finally by Craig, it was his nickname by Phil, shortman. His name is Arnold Shortman.
5. In some episodes, a title of an establishment will have Hillwood in front of the title. In the episode “Road trip”, Helga and her mom are seen driving back into Washington State. So we can therefore assume they live in Hillwood, Washington.
Well, I’m done. I know it was long and I sound obsessed, but I prefer to think of it as passionate. Hoped you enjoyed reading it, and support all of us to get Hey Arnold! Back on Nick. Have a nice day.
