Smiller, Charles had many silly moments on much of Mash(like when he told Mulcahy he couldn't believe a Winchester could snore!). That ep you describe just showed how they couldn't recapture the humour from the first seasons again. Good right wing way the court (outside of Winchester)was portrayed in that ep though!
not sure if it truely jumped. in the Army, people would come and go alot, and yes people did die, so losing Trapper, Frank, Henry, and Radar was a bit sad it tried to keep with the feel of life moves on. And yes the moralization did get a bit old i still enjoy this show when i watch it now
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…
I have returned (part five)…
Here is YET ANOTHER classic J*U*M*P: the KLINGER’S COURT-MARTIAL episode. You remember when Klinger was on trial for stealing a camera and Winchester acted as Klinger’s defense attorney. Then the otherwise intelligent Winchester proceeded to make a complete imbecile of himself in the courtroom. Remember, towards the end of the court martial when Winchester, in a desperate attempt to make himself sound legitimate as Klinger’s attorney, recited a phrase in Latin that translated into “aspirin, three times a day” or something like that. Even worse, when, just before the reading of the verdict, Winchester makes a final plea for Klinger’s innocence, saying that a conviction would irreparably damage HIS (Winchester’s) credibility.
It was amazing how someone of Winchester’s intelligence could be made to look so idiotic. But I suppose that The Powers That Be at M*A*S*H (led by St. Alda--THE OBAMA, of course) were tired of seeing Winchester portrayed in such a positive light and, just to amuse themselves, decided to portray him as a total blithering idiot.
I actually sympathized with David Ogden Stiers; having to watch him portray his otherwise fine character (intelligent, articulate, excellent surgeon, not to mention politically and socially conservative, etc.) in such a silly manner was disturbing, to say the least. And not the least bit funny…

MASH jusmped when the humer went from intelligent to puns - watch anything after season 3 - every joke is a pun.
I don't think that there is a distinct point at which M*A*S*H jumps the shark -- rather, there is a gradual transition for probably half a season either side of the break between season 4 and 5.
Many people feel that the series jumped after the end of season 3. I actually felt that the first part of season 4, while somewhat different (necessarily, given that Potter and BJ were quite different characters than Blake and Trapper), was still worthy of the standards set by the first three seasons. Towards the end of Season 4 and the beginning of Season 5, things begin to change, the start of the transition from M*A*S*H (a comedy) to The Alan Alda Show (a preachy drama with occasional comic moments).
Perhaps it's coincidence, but this period where the show declines seems to correpond with the Larry Gelbart's gradual disengagement from M*A*S*H. That's as good an explanation as any.

Perfect site! Mum was in England large casserole recipes Excellent work brazilian bacalhau gomez de sa recipes, I love it
Respect !
All the other reasons are secondary to the fact that it overstayed its real life counterpart. An 11 year show based on a three year war? The actors grew old playing their repective characters. Doggon it! Gary's hair started to recede and Radar was still being portrayed as an immature teddy bear toting youngster. No wonder he was hard to work with. I would have been too. I don't care what the ratings were. I don't care how many emmys the show won. Four years at the most.
