Well put--you nailed it.

Her motto should be

I.A.A.O.

(It's All About Oprah)
Oprah is nothing more than a brand. Everything that she does, from the charities to her "reporting" to the marketing (book clubs, etc), everything is, above all else, about "OPRAH."

If she can't get her name attached to a project/idea and generate publicity for herself, she won't participate. To her, it's all just a huge corporate plan designed to enrich one specific person's life -- hers. If she helps someone along the way, that's great because it only helps with the publicity, but it's certainly not a mandatory thing. If someone gets hurt along the way, she knows nothing about it, of course... that would be someone else's fault. Damage control at all costs!
SHOCKER!

Oprah is on the cover of Oprah Magazine AGAIN!!
Does Oprah have any education?
Not that I needed anymore ammunition to detest Oprah, but one of the posters below who mentions the Briley Case has hit it dead on the nail. Those guys terrorized Richmond, VA in 1979 and essentially killed for sport. Even after their death row convictions, they participated in a well-publicized prison break. The Commonwealth of Virginia did the rest of us a favor by zapping these nitwits right out of existance.
Don't make fun of Oprah for seeking out the 1000 thread count sheets. That's all Oprah uses. Not to sleep on--she only sleeps on silk--but to wipe her giant behiney after a dump. Of course she doesn't actually do the wiping--one of her servants does.
I gave up on Oprah when she went on her road trip with Gayle and acted like she didn't know how to pump gas, stood in line at the Wynn and Vegas and asked, "Is this how regular people do it?", and asked where the 1,000-thread count sheets were at a dollar store. Stuck up bitch is obviously too good for the rest of us now.
I remember watching her panic on her own show for fifteen minutes as she got her ears pierced.
Why Oprah Sucks: Years ago, in the mid 80's, Oprah had a female black activist on her show. The woman had married a jailed murderer who had been executed on Virginia's death row. She was on Oprah's show preaching that "the racist state of Virginia" had murdered her poor, poor, innocent husband, just because he was black. According to her, it was purely a racist court system that had charged and convicted and executed her "husband." Well, I can tell you, her husband (one of the infamous murdering Briley brothers), had a very fair trial, and one based on impeccable police work, and was definitely a non-racially charged case. Every one of the victims of this monster's murderous rampage was black, except one. The people he beat and robbed were all black. These Brileys preyed on their own people in their own neighborhood. When the jury was seated, at least 2/3rds of the jury or more were black. These heinous killers were found guilty by solid evidence, firsthand eyewitnesses, and good forensics. I know this because I ATTENDED THE TRIAL as a tv news courtroom artist. Oprah and her audience of sheep sat there and tut-tutted this "poor woman's plight" at the hands of "The racist state of Virginia, while I was having a coniption-fit watching this travesty of lies. Ever since that day, I have had no use for Oprah, or her show, or her fans.
At the risk of stating the obvious, Oprah is a complete, self-promoting narcissist. Oprah's "I'm a spiritual, charitable soul" act is just than--an act--intended to promote the Oprah brand.

Of course, if we criticize Oprah for exploiting the gullibility of the public for profit, then we also have to criticize all the people who still buy into Oprah's act--despite all the evidence of who Oprah really is.

Oprah frequently quotes her friend, the "poet" Maya Angelou who says "when someone shows you who they are, believe them" Well its time everyone believed Oprah about who she really is.
Re: Patricktimothy1...

How can Oprah do that to her fan, especially an innocent girl who is about to die? If she can spit on a dying girl, it makes you ponder the low level of respect she likely has for the rest of her fans.

I suppose it was for the best that the little girl didn't waste her last wish by getting to see someone like Oprah. I only hope that the little girl got to meet a celebrity more worthy of her time, or another last wish that made her just as happy if not happier.
She's God and an orator like Hitler in one super non-human being!

I see your point about not knowing Oprah, but I think it is reasonable to draw conclusions about her from the way she conducts her public life, particularly her show.

The same preachiness you don't like leads me to beleive she is arrogant--only an arrogant person (talk show host or anyone else) can tell millions of others how to live their lives.

Same goes for conceited. Nothing wrong with a tv star promoting herself and her show. But when you need to put your name on everything, it seems like more than self-promotion, it seems like a burning need to be noticed.
I haven't been an Oprah fan since 1992 when she was primarily doing episodes on teen pregnancy and mothers against drunk drivers. Nothing against her, but she has changed and I can't stand what she has changed into.

Many posts on this board have said she is arrogant and conceited. But since they have never met her they really can't say that. How do they know?

I'm just writing to say that her show changed from a talk show for regular people to a glorified preach fest to tell people what they "should" be doing with themselves. How to lose weight. How to look better. How to feel better. Soon she will be telling women how to take a crap in the morning.
Let's be honest. Oprah is a fat, unattractive, arrogant talk show host--albeit a highly successful one-- whose every word, gesture and action is designed to promote herself.

The book club, the "live your best life", the Angel Network, the school in South Africa (you know, the one where the girls were molested)--its all about OPRAH. If people are helped, it just a by-product of OPRAH celebrating herself.

Amazing how many Oprah worshippers out there can't, or just refuse, to recognize Oprah for what she is.
