Crass, overblown, unrealistic rubbish.
There's no way, absolutely no way to enjoy this crap if one is a man, except for trying to get along with your girldriend or whatever... It´s very, very bad.. Obnoxious and futile characters whom only care for fashion.

I even tried watching two episodes in a row. What a mistake, what a mistake!!
cool site man
A storyline they never really touched on was to show one of the women completely ignoring the others because of her relationship with a man. It would give a big, fat hint to all of the people who do this in real life.

That would have been a GREAT storyline!
I'm neither gay nor a well-past-her-prime call girl, so I couldn't find much to watch in this show. I understand that it caters to a certain segment and that they love it. It's just not for me.
wow, there are an awful lot of haters posting here. you know, if I don't like a show, I tend to avoid and ignore it, but I certainly don't go out of my way to find it on the internet and waste my time posting about it to people who do like it. if someone asks you, by all means tell them you dislike the show, but to go out of your way and make an unwanted comment is silly.

To the person who believes men write the show, incorrect. While Michael Patrick King was the main writer and producer, his writing staff was all women. They came to him and presented him with the ideas for the show based on personal experiences in dating and relationships. He simply wrote their ideas into a screenplay. The creator of Sex and the City is Candance Burnshell, who, like Carrie Bradshaw, had a dating/sex column in a NYC paper.

To the poster who was disguted at how the men are treated, I say that you watch Entourage and you will see women are treated in the same manner, as either sex objects or doormats. This show is about women and in real life, women can dump men, so drop the whole appalled reaction, seeing as its long overdue to see women treating men in the same way they have been treated.

I love this show. It was a funny, lighthearted show that gave single people hope. Most shows are dedicated to romance only, leaving single people feeling bad because they dont have a relationship. This show was like a Valentine to the singles of the world. I also loved how when the women were in a relationship the writers weren't afraid to show the unattractive personality traits of the women, such as Miranda being so judgemental, Charlotte being so materielistic (the episode with the uncircumcised man was great because after how catty she was, she got dumped by him so he could date others), Samantha being terrified of her heart being broken, and Carrie's fear of change and growing up.

I don't think the show jumped the shark, but I did hate when Carrie became involved with the Russian and left New York. Carrie was the ultimate NYC girl and the show's concept was about just that, so for her to leave was the opposite of what she stood for through much of the series. (her love for NY and how it was her boyfriend)

To me, the show was at its best when all of the women were single. It reminds me of the days when my friends from high school would constantly hang out. Nowadays, when someone gets into a relationship, they forget the life they had before, such as friends and personal interests. A storyline they never really touched on was to show one of the women completely ignoring the others because of her relationship with a man. It would give a big, fat hint to all of the people who do this in real life.
KGlR2B hi! hice site!
An frivolous show for empty-headed people.

I cherished every second of it.
SATC worked. A viewer could have one of two reactions: I've been there/done that or What an idiot. As far as the characters' progression being too happily ever after, it may have been, but what actually happened was each character, except Carrie, faced what they feared most - committment and change.
Charlotte realized that happiness isn't all about looks and a rich WASP last name. Miranda realized that although she didn't want to give up her career and address, she actually needed to and was willing to make that change for her son. Samantha realized that protecting herself by refusing to commit to somebody was going to leave her lonely and ultimately angry. Carrie didn't really change at all. She didn't face her fear of actually achieving true love and again committed herself to Big, who would never truly commit to her. So her happy ending actually wasn't; it showed that she was the only character who couldn't, or wouldn't, move on. Like all long running shows, there were times that it was unbelievable (NY lifestyle on that income?) and downright annoying (Wait, does it ever rain or snow there)? SATC did its job - showed women and men that relationships and people progress. Or in Carrie's case, they just don't.
The show never jumped for me, and to John B just to clarify the guy dumped Charlotte after she told him his father grabbed her butt as he didn't believe her.

As for the women dumping men, it isn't unnoticed in the show and is commented on in regards to each ones character, it says more about the women then the men.

What did annoy me was the lack of sensitivity to Steve's testicular cancer, when he lost one of his testicles, the women were beyond clueless and stupid about the whole thing, yet everyone was in tears about Samantha almost losing her breast to cancer.
I loved this show from the beginning for its total lack of conventionalism. However, I believe it did JTS around the time Carrie started dating that dancer (can't spell his name, is it Mikail Barishnicoff or something?)

That was I believe right after Carrie cheated on Aiden with Big and then she told him (what a dumbass!) about it.

After that, the show had run out of steam anyway. Miranda was pregnant, which I always hated. Its Sex and the City, not Pregnant and the City. Also, Charlotte was married to that bald guy and was no longer funny. She was my favorite character because she was so conservative on the outside but also so sexy when she was alone with guys.

Plus, the producers stopped showing the girls all seated together at lunch. That used to be my favorite moment of the show, when all of the girls laughed at the stupid things they did in their daily lives. However, in the last 2 seasons the jokes got stale.
I Love Sex and the city!!
Is anyone else pissed about how the men are treated in this show?

Carrie breaks up with every good guy for some insanely minor thing.

Charlotte dumps guys because they like different china, one guy's dad grabs her ass (that's NOT THE GUYS FAULT!)

Miranda dumps men over her own insecurities

Samantha just tries to get laid.

Seriously, I cannot stand the fact that the men are always blamed and the women rip on them for absolutely no reason. If a guy has a freaky sex move or strange taste, its no reason to leave him if you love him.

Big is the most honest character in the show. He's a man who is out for himself, and knows what he wants. And then when he acts totally in character, SJP has the audacity to act surprised? Cut me some slack.

By the way, memo to Carrie - YOU CHEATED ON AIDAN, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND! I don't care if you burnt your legs that isn't his fault.

By the way, ya, I'm a guy. Ya, I've seen every episode and the movie. The only part of this show that I hate is how the guys are treated like crap for things that aren't their fault, because at the bottom of it all these girls are just insecure high school girls with bigger bank accounts. Their own insecurities and poor judgement ultimately cause their unhappiness, yet they blame everyone else but themselves. Seriously, you women are old as hell, please take a little responsibility. Thank you.
Come on! None of you have ever slept with a guy and dissected it with your friends?! None of you have ever had a one night stand or had a man ask you to do something so disgusting or strange that you rang your girlfriend at 2am to ask if you were strange?! My God where have you girls been? Sitting at home waiting for Mr Right. Why would you bother to comment about a show you hate and presumably have never watched?
I believe the sharks started circling during some of the scenes that were flat-out either vulgar or just incredibly wrong moral messages to send out to the world. How awfully RUDE they were, how superficial. Such as when they jump in to bed immediately after meeting men and THEN treated them so rudely....

Example: Miranda and her fellow weight watcher went out to split a donut and decided to work it off sexually. After he goes down on her she is devastatingly shocked that he comes back up and wants to kiss her (and it IS, literally her..!) crass or not, the way she treated him and then discussed him at lunch for a laugh, really offended me personally, on the guy's behalf! This is how we treat people? Then when he found out, went out and ate over it, she was judgmental.

The other scene that made me go ballistic was when Carrie's place went co-op...she had already cheated on Aidan, treated him like a jerk (come on- wearing his engagement ring on her neck?!! Bitch! and getting offended at his choice..? Hmm, grateful much?)

So she goes to Big then changes her mind...I can't remember quite how it went. What got ME was, everyone at the lunch table the next day offered her money. (That happens to me every day.) Charlotte looks away, overacting as usual and broadcasting I AM UNCOMFORTABLE OH NO, Look Innocent...how subtle she always was.

My blood boiled to see Carrie attempt to take a bus and go over to give Charlotte a piece of her mind for not offering to lend her money and rescue her financially!!. Charlotte, quite fittingly, reminded her that her financial problems were from the choices she had made and were not her (Charlotte's) problems to fix. Basically, be a grown up. I couldn't have been happier to hear something so healthy and grown up and maybe say a little to something out there about consequences to actions.

So Carrie has the gall to be insulted again?! I just about choked on my hatred of her. Made me start to literally hate SJP.

I mean she has a cute little giggle which is endearing. But she also has an ear-splitting SHRIEK that makes me glad I don't live anywhere near her in NY!

So for these reasons and others, I love to hate them. And I think this site is excellent for releasing my frustration when I see this. I really appreciate the chance to share..thanks!
