The baldness of the cap hurt the show's credibility 4 me, too. Benjamin Franklin once said : only 2 things R inevitable : death & taxes. Any civilisation which could create the likes of the Enterprise would surely have long, long since cured baldness.
This:
"Sub Rosa shamelessly rips off The Witching Hour"
I always skip that episode. Other than that, I loved this show, it was my favorite star trek with ds9 being a close second.

Thanks, though some of the explanations did not work for me. Re : #5 : did she quit, or was she fired? Additionally, why didn't they simply transfer her character? There was no reason for doing what they did to the character.

1. this question has allready been answered. no. some things are accepted as natural. the only exception seems to be same sex relationships.
2. this is not Hard science Fiction based on what they were capable of doing in the sciences when it was made. this is an alternate reality with its own rules! the whole thing was Originally conceived of as "Wagon Train to the stars"
3. Gene Roddenberry's decesion. and untill he passed, what he said, WENT!
4. they wanted to show a CIVILLIAN side to the characters as well. Mr. Roddenberry de-emphasized the millitary aspects the second time around.
5. the Actress left the show. she "McCleaned"

I loved this show, still do, but I couldn't have handled watching it much longer if Wesley Crusher had stayed around. Sure, the kid was a genius, but no highly trained adult couldn't keep up mentally?
I only watched it for the 1st year & perhaps an episode or 2 of the 2d year & a rare few episodes thereafter from time to time. Just a few questions : if this is the technologically-advanced future of more than 3 centuries from now, 1)wouldn't they have invented a cure for baldness by then?, 2)wouldn't they be too advanced & savvy to waste time on superstitions & pseudo-sciences like psychology & astrology & mind-reading & emotions-feeling in the form of a mental quack on the ship's bridge? (Even in our own benighted present age, most intelligent people reject such obvious pseudo-sciences as psychology & astrology. Wouldn't they be considered the equivalent of country-fair palmistry, palm-readings by then?), 3)what are little kids doing on board this ship? Yes, I know that this is intended as a peaceful, exploratory ship ; however, the ship is constantly encountering dangerous aliens, disputed space boundaries, neutral zones, & hostile alien-races. She has to convert to a war-ship at a moment's notice. No ship on such a voyage would have kids on board. It doesn't make sense. Finally, why did they introduce that entertainment deck (whose official name escapes me or whose name I never encountered in the 1st place)? What's the point of venturing into the depths of unknown space if you're just going to spend whole episodes playing round in that imaginary world? Also, why did they kill off that nice blond girl after the 1st year? I liked her. Maybe some of these questions were answered in the past, but I can't bring myself to scroll through 27 pages. Thanks, signed Joe
this show was the best star trek ever and possibly the best scifi show ever.
never jumped and could never jump.

Worf and Deanna were quite a mismatch, weren't they?
I quickly grew tired of Q, the holodeck episodes *yawn*

This is without a doubt the best star trek series there is. Of course, it is not without its faults. In my view one flaw was the character Counsellor Troi. I really did not like the way she was developed inti the ship's tramp. The fact that she was promoted to the rank of Commander, after seven years of doing nothing but feeling other people's emotions, and "tramping", was annoying.
A.B.
A.B.
The Enterprise gives birth. Data has three identical brothers. Picard runs off to be a pirate. Wesley. Alexander.
Data gets a cat. The four damn lights.
Worf sets the ship on fire. Troi studies for an hour and gets promoted. Mrs. Troi. Hugh. The mirror universe being virtually the same as the show's universe. Guinan. Ensign Ro. The Picard (ugh).

Season Seven. Here are SOME reasons why:
Too many episodes about Data malfunctioning
Beverly defeats the Borg
Too many long-lost moms, sons, sisters...
Warp drive is bad for the environment
Sub Rosa shamelessly rips off The Witching Hour
Deanna and Worf hit it off
The Enterprise becomes self-aware
On top of this, just a general blandness about the season. There are good episodes, but to me, they're exceptions to the rule. The characters actually seem LESS developed than they were a couple years before. My favorite show, but I'm glad there wasn't a Season Eight!
