More than the loss of 2 main characters, Stargate jumped when:

1) Teal'c grew hair
2) When all religion/legend/mythology became fair game for plot (Merlin? Are you serious?)
Well done - quite a piece of work,

It was all down hill once Richard Dean Anderson left.
The obvious, but not actually stated, sexual attraction between Jack and Daniel also gave the story an interesting aspect.

RDA atually admitted that they meant the close interaction between O'Neill and Jackson was to come across as having homosexual feelings for one another. The 'homosexual tension' (as Michael Shanks called it) of Daniel and Jack's relationship had to be alluded to,of course.
Well, the People's Choice Awards are absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. Now if they won an Emmy? . . . that's what influences the PTB.

And besides, it was SG:A that won the PCA, not Stargate SG-1. Not that they were without accolades. They won plenty of awards, mostly in the graphics genre.

And the people who think the show stopped being good when the Ori showed are mostly the people who have been here since the very beginning. Read the book (Jack O'Neil was a Marine) and saw the movie (a cult favorite). When the idea for the series came, there were a lot of excited people, especially when it was announced that Richard Dean Anderson was starring as Jack O'Neill . . . well, it WAS exciting!

And we're old enough to state an opinion that was largely supported by the general Stargate SG-1 loving public. Ratings, letters to Sci-Fi Channel, and to MGM prove that out. So does the cancellation.

The Arthurian legend was one that has been done dozens of times, and while they had a few unique ideas . . . not enough to keep my own attention. My favorite episodes were the stand-alones.

And what it boiled down to is that it lacked the cohesion and humor after RDA left.

That's my opinion . . . take it or leave it. That's what's great about being an American. Freedom to state what's on your mind. Though I don't fit your characterization of Dukes of Hazzard material, "SG-1winsAwards"; that's just childish and insulting. Well educated and open minded people don't think that way.
I agree the ORI were probably the BEST and most fantastic villains ever. They used the infinite powers of the mind.

The show never jumped of course. And as everyone knows, a show that has an entire universe as its setting never runs out of ideas, in actuality it has more ideas and possibilities than any other show whose setting is more limited.

Certainly more than sci fi channels dumb ECW wrestling that can only act out fake clown shows inside a little box of a ring. Rather than having an entire galaxy full of possibilities and ideas like Stargate SG-1 has. Wrestling has run out of ideas and yet that idiot program continues... 25+ years.

Some really junior-high-ish people aren't at the mental level yet to understand the ORI, and never heard that the pen is mightier than the sword. All they can understand is Bang bang boom boom. That type of fan is not stargate material anyway, they are more suited for Dukes of Hazzard. Not fathoming the immense ingenuity behind the ORI is just a sign of immaturity. Simply a sign of the often lower intelligence of those who don't understand that the Ori represent one of the greatest foes ever, and could wipe out the goa`uld with a wave of the hand as if the goa`uld were a little gnat. Goa`uld were great too, as is the whole show. And naturally a required foundation for showing how truly powerful the Ori were. In other words, this is not a "competition between foes" as these little "spiderman versus superman" kids think posting these ori vs goa`uld dumb things. haha. They are both rich and wonderful components woven into the entire fabric of such a great show.

Also, if you ever see 1 write that the show is out of ideas, it is that person who is out of ideas, its especially funny because that person doesn't realize that the show has continued as Stargate Atlantis plus 2 blockbuster movies, and its the same writers. haha. So they dont realize that the show has continued with over a half-decade of more and more ideas (This is Atlantis's 5th year, half a decade, achieving a huge volume of more episodes from the people who are supposedly out of ideas. hahaha. People who post that are often just uninformed or just don't have that much knowledge. Its funny to see goofballs post that one though. So whenever you see someone post that fallacy, you can probably imagine the person typing it is pretty clueless. Remember that time who was it, Jessica Simpson or somebody, thought tuna was made out of chicken because it said "Chicken of the Sea" on it? When you see 1 of the goofballs posting the ori thing or the out of ideas thing, you can imagine they would probably be just like that. hehe. Only probably younger.Or at least in mental age.

They'll figure it out when they grow up...maybe. Probably not.

haha, the same writers who were supposedly "out of ideas" continue and produce 5 years worth of shows, nearly 100+ more eipisodes, inclusive of some of the same characters, go on to win the peoples choice award, create 2 motion picture scripts, and stargate sg1 continuing on as hugely popular movies. haha, out of ideas, yeah, right. Oh, boy, sides are hurting from laughing every time we see someone post that. :) too funny.
The show Jumped in a big way by introducing the Ori. Awful "villians". The Ancient line of the story was just barely okay; then they introduce "Evil Ancients"?

And it might have survived an inexperienced (in the Stargate) officer if they put Cameron in a more subordinate role, at least until he gained more field experience. But they didn't and it made him look the fool.

Vala was great in the one episode in season 8, and might have been more credible if they had NOT had her as part of the team in seasons nine and ten.

It wasn't the show that I had loved for eight years.

Even Sam's charachter changed. More whiny and emotional. And a-know-it-all. Who knew she had the time to take claases to gain those PhD's to make her en expert in every field.

And Daniel . . . Rambo-Daniel. Enough said.

I'm hoping the new series will be better. Hopefully they learned their lesson when the ratings dropped in Stargate SG1.

And I'll admit it. I missed Jack. He was one-of-a-kind. I missed the old team and how they just gelled.
