Great show. Yes, I think it had its jumping moments, but it stayed afloat for most of the time.

It´s unfortunate that the DVD sets don´t have English subtitles at least.

The chemistry, comradeship and general warmth between Soul and Glaser was amazing and, in my opinion, it was matched by that of Virnon, Burke and Galen at the short lived "Planet of the Apes" TV Series (14 episodes - 1974).
i was 12 years old when S&H came on the air and through today it is still one of my favorites. I thought they were the coolest guys around nailing chicks, wasting dirtbags, the red tomato, the humor, everything. Sure a few of the eposides through the 4 year run were far from emmy material but i just enjoyed watching them. As for some of the people who thought they were fags get your friggin minds out of the gutter, they were 2 buddies who watched out for each other's back, nothing more nothing less.
I gotta say.. I'm only 20 yrs old, and my mum was a HUGE S&H fan in her youth and so when TNN(formerly) began playing re-runs of our favorite cop duo... i was hooked. Hilarious story lines now that I think of it. But man.. David soul made my knees weak. He was/is a beautiful looking man! too bad real life doesnt have men that are like S&H. I think recently revisiting the show, those "gay" undertones, were really not there. These guys were supposed to be sex symbols for girls and heroes for the guys. Every girl wants a guy that looks good and can kick ass with style. every guy wants to kick ass in style. references about how close these two guys were, i think was meant for the ladies to observe how gentle and loving these guys were, and the taking off the clothes bit.. hey, i cant complain. but i gotta say, just like everyone else, the show went slightly downhill from the 3rd season. but i heard it was PMG making noise about how violent the show was, and DS was just following in his buddy's footsteps.... oh and what was with David Soul's mustache in the 4th season.. baaaaaadd decision.
...We wore our trigger fingers to the bone attempting to emulate S&H with those cap guns that you couldn't possibly purchase these days...it was always entertaining, despite the "Disco Killer" story arc that kept repeating itself over and over on all these 1970's shows. This was "back in the day" when the "anti-heroes" were always a force for good, not corrupt cops on the take or evidence-planting miscreants. There were some weak episodes toward the end of the series, but the first couple of years the episodes were gritty and tense with a lot of action.
*Sigh* some of the eppys were lame, but what show wasn't back then? There really hasn't been another show with the tight friendship onscreen like S&H. David & Paul have remained the best of friends ever since. And that's what made the show so lovable, their friendship and love is real! But I felt the did JTS with the last season. Hutch became more David and you could tell both had had enough. However, they made it thru the last season with the love and respect of each other and their audience.
Never jumped... This was the best show on TV and I enjoy it still today.
I loved they way they could go from a very serious show to one that was just plain goofy and have fun with it.
It's so sad that you don't see any characters on any show today that are caring and close like S&H were.
I guess Psych is kinda close. Very funny show, but still not as good.
PMG was and is still the sexiest man alive!!
This was great '70's cop schlock. But most folks don't realize it was a ripoff of an earlier program...
I mean, doesn't anyone remember the show about an Alaskan sled dog and a potato?
-Husky and Starch-
I adore this show. The chemistry between David and Paul is the reason I love the show, as everybody else does. I love both the guys, but I have to admit that Hutch is the reason I watch the show he was so sexy and smart. Hutch Rules!!
OMG!!!!! This show rocks. I was not born until '82, but I fell in love withe this show when I caught a re-run when I was 10. I have all of the episodes on DVD. I loved them both, but if I had to pick a favorite it would have to be Hutch. He was so sexy!!
My favorite show ever. Nothing on today's lineup with all its so-called realism can hold a candle to this beautiful show and these two guys. I never missed it back in '75-'79 so of course I bought the DVDs. Now friends who missed it the first time are rediscovering this gem. The kids love it too, even the silly bits.
Everybody keeps saying that the show got weaker in season 3. Actually season 2 was already a lot tamer than season one. In season 2 comely country singer Lynn Anderson guested on Starsky and Hutch as a stalked country singer (I guess the even more famous and also comely Lorretta Lynn was unavailable for this role)and Starsky started singing Lynn's song (while in her audience; the shot of him singing was used in season 3 and 4 in the opening credits). Hutch got up and sang a solo at the ep's end. Also, in season 2 they had the stalked cowboy actor (played by Rory Calhoun) and S+H went down to the movie studio and acted like real goofy stuntmen. So in short, season 2 was the first slightly weak (compared to season 1) season of the show--not season 3! But S+H was very good for its entire four year run!
Paul Michael Glaser is drop dead gorgeous, I think even moreso today. When I was 16 he made my knees turn to jelly. 25 years later he can still do it for me. He and David Soul brought an intensity and beauty to a friendship that you just will not see on tv today. I have all the DVDs. Some of the scripts were dreadful, but the actors gave them something extra that made even the cheesy eps watchable and fun.
I'm sitting here absolutely seething .... I was just browsing through past posts and came upon one where some durrrr-brain said that Starsky had a GLASS EYE!!!??? For his/her information, Paul Michael Glaser has got the sexiest eyes ever - I mean anywhere. Yeah, he's got this sort of asymmetrical look about him, but that simply gives him his patented s-e-x-y squint which turns me inside out. I've never seen anyone else who comes close. PMG and DS were real men in every sense; pity there aren't any on the box nowadays.
I loved this show!! Friendship, great stories, Starsky was the best, Huggy Bear, Cpt. Dobey, great Tom Scott theme song, the bond between the guys. Very gritty at first. I agree with the person who said they get chills from the episode at the end where they are drunk, playing Monopoly, Hutch trying to get them jobs in the Canadian Football League... can't remember when it jumped the shark (it did) but this is one of my all-time favorite shows on television. Starsky rules!
From Victoria: My first crush was on Starsky. Man, did I love his hairy chest! This was the best cop show on tv, and nothing so far has compared to this in over 30 Years. Back in the 70's, shows were entertaining, now, we are stuck with reality tv and over paid actors for shows that lack imagination.
