I never liked this show but as a credit to it's fan's my occasional stumble to KLRN/PBS showed that it was very stable. It never did anything to jump the shark.
What killed it for me was my pair of over the top teenage siblings that overhyped this nice show :(
Their schedule was something like this
-Wishbone: OK
-Digimon: I leave the room
-Rosie O Donald: They had to be brain dead
-Sailor Moon: Immature.
My afternoons were forever ruined.
Never pressure somebody into watching anything because sooner or later you'll be left alone with a mess of dead shows with no one willing to sit and watch with you.
peace
Wishbone never jumped in my opinion. After my first dog died, I definitely wanted a new dog. I was elated when we got a new dog that was Wishbone's breed. When I saw Wishbone, this was the first time that I heard of the Jack Russell Terrier breed. That is what my second dog's breed is. This show is perfect for bringing back the love of reading in a child's life and learning valuable lessons.
I don't know when I first came across Wishbone, but I fell in love with it instantly. It was a show that didn't try to "stupify" the viewer, as many of the shows on PBS were. It was Entertaining and Thought Provoking.

I see signs of H.G. Well's the Time Machine everywhere. How we as a society are turning into the Pink People by letting technology do everything for us. I learned that from "Wishbone". It was a pretty good show.
Wishbone never jumped the shark.

The premise was great. A dog that daydreams of being the main character in a classic piece of literature. Isn't that how we all read? Putting ourselves in the books or casting them as movies and playing them in our heads. And of course Wishbone can only be "heard" in his daydreams where they don't even see him as a dog.

This show never sugarcoated books like Disney does. And I thought it was great in the end where they educated their audience on bits about TV production, like stunts or costumes.

Rest in Peace, Soccer. You had a great life and left a wonderful legacy.

I only wish all of the episodes were available either on tape or DVD and that my local PBS station would air them again. They are timeless and as relevant today as when they were first airred. There is a whole generation who never saw Wishbone that could benefit from his message: Put your nose in a good book.
I really enjoyed Wishbone when it was on, and in fact I am trying to locate some DVDed episodes. I already own the four that are currently being sold on Amazon, but no luck with any of the others. Any other ideas? Anyways, Wishbone is a show in which I think they should think about bringing a show like it back on the air. One, it had a good story-line concept. Two, it got kids to become knowledgable about the great literary classics. And three, try to find a show nowadays that gets kids out and doing things other than just wasting time and watching TV
I used to watch Wishbone all the time. When it was originally on I was 11 now I'm 23. They still show reruns of it where I live in Washington State. I agree that the show lost it's flair when the kids got older. One of my favorite episodes was the Joan of Arc one. I love the scene where Wishbone and Joan of Arc are sitting under these trees at nighttime and there are candles all around. I will always remember Wishbone and I still have my stuff animal of him.
I agree Wishbone was tooooo PC. BUT it was one of the best ideas on how to get kids interested in reading. If Wishbone jumped the shark it was by not phasing in younger characters like Saved by the Bell...Joe's mom could have gotten remarried and had a younger stepson and the story could have developed in that direction. I loved Wishbone the dog and the concept...But I too hated all the PC language and distortions.
I did a book report in high school on "A Tale of Two Cities" and got an "A"......and never once opened the book. I heart you Wishbone! You're better than Cliff Notes!
I loved this show!!! I wish that my local pbs station would air re-runs.
This was the best show I've ever watched. Period. I was a major Wishbone fan (and now I'm 21!). When I went to college, and the professors would name a famous piece of literature, I almost always knew about it already, thanks to this little dog with a BIG imagination!!
Like a lot of other JTSers, I'd have to say Wishbone jumped when Puberty hit the core of the cast. About 3 years ago I'd say it left my PBS station here, and I wonder if its still on the air. Maybe they pulled it because of the poor plot lines and such. What's the Story Wishbone? I bet you jumped the shark!
This show never jumped the shark. Wishbone was awesome, and for a children's show, the sub-plots and literature plots were done well. To the above poster who says calling Injun Joe "Crazy" Joe I say to you just let it go. That is not a slap in the face to Mr. Clemens that is just someone looking for something to start trouble about. If everyone in the world is going to be politically correct about everything, then I guess never again should we say "your crazy" to our friends because that might upset anyone who thinks we're trying to make fun of mentally handicapped people. Get a life.
Wishbone will always be the second cutest dog (after mine) that ever lived. i loved it and it made reading books in school more interesting. But sometimes after the show they would do behind the scenes and it jumped for me when they showed a bunch of stunt dogs doing the cool things that Wishbone was famous for. I cried for three days straight when i found out he wasn't the one who rescued that person from the water. and also when i realized that the little paw print on his ear was fake.
Wishbone was one of my favorite programs growing up (I'm 16 now). I was 7-10 when I watched this lovely show. It showed this cozy little town with cozy sweet people and harmless problems. But of course, the literary part was great. My love of reading was fueled by Wishbone's interpretations of the classics. I loved ALL of them! The parallels between the book and Joe's (or David's or Sam's) life were fantastic - never corny, but very fitting. I agree with the people who said that puberty was Wishbone's downfall. It was no longer cute little middle school Joe, ut tall, deep voiced high schooler Joe. They did start hanging out at that pizza place, Pepper Pete's, and the show stopped being so CUTE. If I want teen angst, I'll tune into the WB. I love Wishbone!!
I feel that "Wishbone" never jumped because it is a great show about literature and Wishbone is so cute in his little character clothing based on the "story" of each episode. :)
