I don't remember this one at all. I saw the title and thought it was about a kid who wandered into a barracks somewhere and took it from some guys that werea long time away from their families.
I have fond memories of this show as a kid.How I pested my parents for a scuba suit like Marine Boys.I remember having a small plastic Boomerang and hrowing it around pretending it was electrified.
Those 1960s Japanese cartoons were the best.Where did they go wrong will all the new garbage.
We have heard of it on the East Coast. I grew up near Washnington D.C. and used to watch this on WDCA Channel 20. This was sometime from 1970-1975.

I thought this show rocked! My parents didn't let me have chewing gum, so I would bite off the end of a cold, straight-from the package hot dog and go dive... somewhere. We didn't have a pool, but uncooked hot dogs were my oxygum. I knew that the love of my life would be a mermaid.
I confess I had a crush on marine boy, but, I was only 2 when he aired. I think this officially proves you are born gay.
A very cute show. I don't know why people are bitching about Cli Cli as being a nuisance...Cli Cli saved Marine Boy's life in the first episode they met, "The Mysterious Paradise"! The only thing that puzzled me about this show is why was it that only Marine Boy was allowed "Oxygum" to breathe underwater while the rest of the Ocean Patrol staff had to use old-fashioned diving equipment to breathe underwater?! I know, his father was the head of the unit...but still, you think that the interests of underwater exploration would over-ride that of nepotism...
This cartoon was so cool when I was a little girl. Like the other poster, I thought Marine Boy was cute (so was Speed Racer). I so wanted to be his little Mermaid friend, Neptimea, and "play" with Marine Boy and I wanted a pet dolphin like Splasher. I could not stand Cli Cli though. He was that pesky little brother who would follow you and ruin your fun with your friends. That other poster who thinks Marine Boy was gay properly had a crush on him too.
I am so pleased that other people remember this great cartoon! Except that when I was small, I didn't realise that it was a cartoon, and I thought that I would marry Marine Boy when I grew up (wrong again). What's all this about him being gay?? I think someone is looking too hard..... I didn't ever try chewing gum and diving into a pond, I had the sense to realise that you would need the proper Oxygum for it to work, but I didn't know that it wasn't really for sale, somewhere.... I've even just found a wav file of the theme tune, and I could still sing along with it, ah, happy days!
Look before I realised that doing good in school actually had a purpose I was living a life long summer holiday. School and washing dishes was just stuff that blurred away in between hunting for dinosaur bones in construction sites, eating froot loops, and getting into fights with six year old hoodlums. But the shining jewel of this existence, and the beacon telling me what life was all about was Marine Boy. Propulsion boots, oxygenated chewies, a white dolphin for a mate, and strangely compelling moon eyed girly crying over your every other move. Man that's the shit.It was never all that clear exactly what he was doing, but he did what no one else could, and he was doing it for the good guys. Sure he got replaced by Astro boy, Speed Racer, The Lone Ranger, all the way through to Noam Chomsky, and David Malouf. But Marine Boy was the first, and always will be.
Marine Boy was gay!! Sooooooo very gay!! He was even more gay than Speed Racer (and that's a stretch)
I remember Marine Boy and I'm 40 years old my cousin and I would chew bubble gum and dive off the sofa and our hands on the carpet. They just don't cartoons like any more. P.S. don't forget his propeller boots he use to swim with.
This is another show that I loved! And I have the scar above my eye from jumping off my friend, Carol's, table into "the ocean" to prove it. I can still hear the theme song..."It's Marine Boy.."
I remember watching this show when I was five or six and living in Seattle. I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. And no one else has ever heard of it. Maybe it's because I live on the East Coast now. What I wouldn't have given to be able to live underwater like the hero! Great cartoon.
Oxygum for ever! Any fans go here http://www.alphalink.com.au/~roglen/marine.htm you will like!!
Holy Crap !!! I can't believe somebody else remembers this show. Cartoon Network should put THIS on immediately.
This is one of those rare cartoons from my childhood that made me wish I never had to grow up.
