Carol716 asked:

"This was a "reality" special on NBC in the mid to late 80s. Four or five women with show business aspirations. They auditioned, went through a performing boot camp, and actually played a couple of club dates across the country (all of this was presented as one two-hour movie special). On the night the show aired they performed on The Tonight Show ( Johnny was still the host). One woman I recall acting in the 80s and 90s, a black woman named Tyra Ferrell (Quantum Leap, Hunter, Boyz in the Hood, The Shield)."

The answer is...

"Reaching for the Stars" - Bizzaro

Rob asked:

"Please can anyone help me! This is driving me insane. There was a sci fi show on T.V. back in the late 80's maybe 88 it was also very short lived. It was either on CBS or ABC. What I remember of it was the intro there were 4 to 5 people walking across a bridge maybe with a waterfall in the background, these people were sillhouted. Now about the show. These people were apparently transported some how to a parallel world were things were the same but different, like they go into a store to buy food and they see a package of meat some one asks "What kind of meat is it?" the person in the store looks at them with a puzzled look on there face and asks "What do you mean what kind of meat is it, its just meat" and I remember a car that was in the shape of some kind of trapezoid. Can anyone help with what the name of this show was?"

The answer is...

"The answer to the family sliping through paralell unvierses was called Otherworld - I think. Sam Groom played the father. I never saw it but remember seeing still in an old Starlog magazine." - Dan

"An 80's drama show, may have been a summer replacement" about a crew of construction workers that always seemed to get involved in solving crimes and catching bad guys. They drove souped up pick-ups and wore logo T-Shirts with phrases like "US Male" on the front. That is all I can remember. Any ideas?"

Kim asked:

"I really need your help with this one because my husband is driving me nuts. He is desperately seeking the name of a cartoon, which appeared in the 1970's. It may have been a special and not a series. It featured a reluctant young witch who wanted to be a regular girl. The premise of the show was that witches could not cry and that someone cursed by the spell could only have the spell broken by witch's tears. The little witch's friend may have been turned to stone and she is so upset she cries and breaks the spell. I hope these details are accurate and that you can help."

The answer is...

"I hope I don't have more than one sitcom confused here. I remember seeing at least one episode of a sitcom in the 70's about a family with kids. Some character, maybe the same teenage girl, kept saying "I don't get it." Does anyone have any clue what I am talking about?"

Cathy asked:

"I vaguely remember a short-lived drama series, possibly early 80s, which dealt with the lives of 2 families. The wife in one of the families was an architect or an engineer and was pregnant; I think she and her husband already had several kids and the pregnancy was a “surprise” thing. There was some question over whether she could do her job well while pregnant and this created a lot of tension, both at home and at her job. The other wife in the other family was a stay-at-home mom and yearned for something else, but she wasn’t sure what. I remember an episode where she went to a college and was trying to decide if she wanted to enroll. The two wives were friends, but since their lives were so different it made for some drama. I remember the SAH mom was played by an actress who was once a dancer, but danged if I can remember her name. She was shown in one episode doing ballet-type exercises. I really liked what little I saw of this show. It had a lot of heart and, as I recall, good writing of the scripts. Any ideas?"

The answer is...

"Two Marriages"

Jon asked:

"Okay, now what is the SECOND highest rated regular season episode of all time?"

The answer is...

"Dallas with the Who Shot JR episode. It aired on CBS, 11/21/80 with a 53.3 rating, 76 share and 41,470,000 viewers. Second only to the M*A*S*H finale.

If you are not counting the series finale of M*A*S*H as a "regular season" episode, then Dallas would be the first highest rated followed by:

The Beverly Hillbillies Regular episode on CBS, 1/8/64 with a 44.0 rating, 65 share and 22,570,000 viewers."

Lisa asked:

"This question's probably gonna be a "forever stumper," but what the heck - it's only been driving me crazy for 35 years. :) The problem is, I don't know for sure if it was a movie or an episode of Twilight Zone or similar type of show, as I was a very young (and highly impressionable) child when I viewed it. (My parents can't tell me, either, because I was alone, having sneaked into their bedroom to watch TV when I was supposed to be asleep!) The basic premise was that these people (some good, some evil) were searching for a cache of stolen diamonds. Eventually the diamonds were discovered sewn into the body of a little girl's doll. The doll itself was quite unsettling, in that when its talk-string was pulled, it sang a morbid song in a creepy baby-doll voice: "The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out...in your stomach and out your mouth." Sorry, I don't remember much more. But I'll mail a box of gourmet chocolates to the first person who ends my decades-long suspense!"

"I never watched this show because it was the stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life. It was in the mid to late 80s, I would say. A mother has two children, I think the husband died or something. Anyway, she is a single mother. Then, and here is the kicker, the uncle comes to live with them, only he is a talking dog!? Kim asked:

"This is killing me....I think it was an after school special, but I am not sure...Used to watch it in the early to mid eighties. had it on videotape (lived overseas and people would send us recorded US television) okay..Two girls, one was new to the apartment complex they lived in and befriends the other-I think it is during summer or something. The one girl is strange, into witchcraft? I remember something to the effect of "scary dianne"?-maybe the fathers new wife... possible theme of show is divorce? There is a scene where she shoplifts, also where she is trying to create a spell in a bathtub...Then I think the other girl realizes she just wants to be friends with the normal girls, I can picture both of these young actresses. One was dark haired (the weird one)-was in a lot at the time, the other was a blond. I'd love to know the name of this and the actresses in it. Thank you for any help!"

The answer is...

"The movie is called "What Are Best Friends For?" (sometimes listed as "What Are Friends For?"). Stars Dana Hill as Michelle Mudd (the weird one) and Melora Hardin as Amy Warner (the sane one)." -Thanks to Shawn

Mr. Paul asked:

"I remember an old tv show from the 1970s, about mid 70s. A group of kids were the main characters - two boys, two girls. The bad guys were a duo - a little evil white-haired guy and his big lumbering brainless companion. Here's where it gets freaky. For some reason the big guy would occasionally deflate and the little evil guy would have to blow him back up to size with a bicycle pump. One of the good guys, a boy, was a young sportsman of some kind and getting him to perform in the olympic games was a sub-plot in the show. Help?"

I remember my parents wouldn't let me watch it because he would say "friggin" at least five times per episode. I remember in one episode he could not move the r.v. out of a barn in a Mexico because there was dust or something that resembled the virgin mary on the windshield. "There was a (terribly) short-lived show on ABC. It was part of the TGIF lineup, and, as I recall, it was within one or two seasons after Perfect Strangers ended. I know there was one show that took that timeslot called, I think, "New Attitude", and it took place in an urban beauty parlor, as I recall. My question(s) -- what was the other one? I seem to (barely) remember something like six slacker-types working in an office building together, or something like that. What was the name of the show, what was it about, and did it have any of the cast members of Friends (this is the bit that's particularly haunting me)."

Jason asked:

"I will be shocked and amazed if anyone can tell me anything about this show. I only saw it once, and I believe it may have been a pilot that aired only once in the late 80's or early 90's. It was essentially an African- American "Adam's Family". I remember that the daughter was a witch (at one point she summoned George Washington to help with history paper), the youngest son was some kind of mad scientist who "created" the oldest brother, who was incredibly stupid. I cannot remember the parents too well, but I believe the grandfather was a vampire and may have been played by Redd Foxx or a similar classic comedian. It either aired in syndication or on NBC, and may have been of the "Small Wonder" or "Out of this World" era. Any and all information so that I can prove to my friend I am not completely crazy would be appreciated."

"My brother told me about a show that we all used to watch. It was about three boys and their fathers, and the boys would come up with crazy ideas. Basically their fathers were best friends and then their sons became friends. Well anyways, it was one of those typical "Saved by The Bell" kinda shows. You know, one person is a jock, the other the geek, and the popular/bad guy type. So yeah, he kept on telling us that it was one of his favorite shows but he didn't know the name of it. "I seem to remember a show when I was little say 1987 onwards, that had two guys (British) who used to just wander around in their garden. The scenes cahmged with a 'splat' type noise, and it was on ABC (In Australia). I think it was called something like "Tales from the bottom of the Garden". Can anyone help?"

The answer is...

"Renee is thinking of the Tony Robinson (Balderick from Blackadder) series called "Tales from Fat Tulip's garden". Tony would walk around a garden and narrate the story of Fat Tulip and his friend Thin Tim. Tony would make movements such as leaps and jumps and any necessary noises for effects as well. I'm pleased that someone else remembered this show. It was shown on the ABC here in Australia." - Steve

"Here's one I've always wondered about. One night my wife and I were channel surfing when we came across a show that I think was called 'Cats'. Pretty sure it was on one of the big 3 American networks (pre-FOX), probably mid to late 1980's. It looked like a failed pilot or one-time special or something. Pretty sure it never aired again. We sat there watching incredulously as several kittens played in a box in the kitchen. Their thoughts were supplied via a voiceover, much like what was done on 'Hammy Hamster'. No one else remembers this and I wouldn't have believed it myself had I been the only one watching. What was this show?"

"There was a sit-com in the early eighties set in Boulder, Colorado, and no it was not Mork and Mindy. The main character was this bizarre genius, really brilliant, off the scale on all tests, who instead of working on the origins of the universe decided to pump iron. Although in his twenties the main characters greatest desire was to go back to high school. Of course he was too old but that was not going to stop him , he was determined. He actually broke into the high school altering records so he could play football and get the chicks.......he had figured out too late that our world does not give a sh*t how smart you are but if you cover yourself with useless muscle you will be worshiped as a God. I know it sounds way out there but it actually gets more bizarre and I could go on and on. Have you heard of the show?"

Kelly asked:

"There was a kid's sketch comedy/variety show on at least 20 years ago and possibly only in Canada. The only episode I remember (because it terrified me!) was about a kid who was supposed to go to the store to get liver for dinner but he was lazy and as he passed by the local graveyard he said "I'll just get my grandmother's liver" (he made motions with his hands pretending to dig). He brought it home only to be visited by his dead grandmother (actor in a sheet) who said "I want my liver" over and over. Anyone know the name of this show ??"
The answer is...

"You Can't Do That On Television! It was shown in the U.S. on Nickelodeon when they began as a Network, but had been on Canadian TV for several years prior. One of the kid stars was a young girl who played the girlfriend of a freckled faced boy named Alisdair ...Alannis Morrissette!" -Thanks to Uncle Jimbo

Don asked:

"Please help me! I remember a show back either in the late '80s or early '90s it starred Chelsea Field, post-'Nightingales' and Marcia Cross pre-'Melrose Place' was in it too. The show was set in an office and one of the characters was the sister of Miss Field's character. I believe the sister was played by the actress who played Paul Buchman's lesbian sister in 'Mad About You'. Miss Cross played the slutty secretary who was having an affair with the boss. I think it was a summer replacement show but was not picked up. It only ran a few weeks. I had such a crush on Marcia Cross at the time and I hoped this was the show that gives her her big break."
The answer is...

" "Just Temporary", which was a late summer pilot that aired in September 1989, and the cast of which also included Lisa Kudrow, pre-Friends."

"There was a sitcom (it possibly was only a pilot) in maybe the early to mid 80's in which the husband had been killed and his brain had been hooked up to a computer which took up a whole wall inside the front door of his wife's house. The only thing I remember is the doorbell rang, and he showed a picture of a rhinocerous on his screen and announced "your mother's here." What the heck was this show?"

"My whole family is being driven mad... we've pretty much searched the whole internet for this but can't seem to find it... I live in South Africa and during the 80s there was a kids show that none of us can remember the name of. It's probably the later 80s because I was only born in 1982. All I can remember is that there was a big thing about "The Secret Of Having It All" and there was a chest owned by the "bad guy" that the "good guys" tried to steal from him every episode cause it contained The Secret Of Having It All. That's about all we have to go on and can't find it anywhere. I would appreciate any help you could give me on the subject."

The answer is...

"'The Bluffers'. The premise ran thus ... the Bluffers were a group of animals - among them a wise owl, a wily fox and a goose named Ging Seng - who lived in a small wood, the only natural environment left in a pavement wasteland created by industrial megalomaniac Clandestino. Said nutjob was a fat hunchback baddie, I seem to remember he had a scatterbrained robot butler, who obsessed over destroying the Bluffers because of their efforts to steal "the secret of having it all" from him. Over here in Britain it aired on Channel Four, though it may have been Spanish in origin." -Thanks to Fletcher

"Some time during the 80's, when i was a little kid, I remember seeing a show from the new fall lineup (i don't know what channel) that completely bombed. I only have a few crucial bits of info on it, but i figured if anyone could figure out what the show was, it was the shark. here's what i know: the show came on sometime after 1985 sometime. in the theme song, there was one line that went, "We love our mom, Don't get us wrong, we love our mom." and there was a scene in which one of the kids said he thinks his mother is pretty, and the other kid remarked, "Yeah, we thought that when we were your age, too." what was that?"

"In a Mad About You episode, Mel Brooks played Paul Buchman's uncle. In the episode, Paul and Ira go over to the uncle's apartment to move a couch, and underneath the couch they find a bunch of pictures. Uncle (Mel Brooks) looks at one of the pictures and holds it close to his face and says "France" (meaning that the picture looks like France), then he holds it at a normal level and says "Paulie on a pony" (meaning the picture looks like Paul on a pony), then he holds it far away and says something else, which I would like to know. Help!"

"There was a TV special, I think in 1968, based on the children's book "THE ENORMOUS EGG." It's about a farm boy in New Hampshire (I think) who finds an Triceritops egg under one of his hens one day, and it hatches into a dinosaur. He raises the dino, and scientists come from all over, and but the creature becomes too big, and he ends up taking it to Washington where it eventually ends up in the Smithsonian, "where it remains 'till this day." The Smithsonian actually has a life-size model of this dinosaur with a nameplate identifying it as placed there in honor of the children's story. But I can't find ANY information about this TV special! Who was in in? Who produced it (Hallmark?) and whether or not it's on video. Has anyone got any information on this special? I remember that it was a great TV movie that really captured my imagination. The title was "THE ENORMOUS EGG."

"There was an episode of Second Noah that aired called "Fly Like A Bird" and in this particular episode, the eldest son Ricky sang a song to Ben about a baby bird with a broken wing. This episode featured Ricky moving out of the home I think, and into his own apartment...What I'd like to know is if anyone remembers the episode and can tell me the name of that song and perhaps who originally sang it? The song also was played during the end of the episode..."

The answer is...

"Episode 2nd season premier "Fly like a Bird" 09-14-96 The song is called Fly Like A Bird and is on Boz Scaggs' CD entitled "Some Change." He sings it a little differently than James, though. There's more to the song, and the lyrics are on the CD.... There is the full song lyrics in the link: http://members.nbci.com/TVCorner/lyrics.htm" -Thanks to Todd

Paraphrased a portion of this poem contained the following: "the people's tears fell to the land like rain and the soldiers sunk into the mud dragged down by the weight of their armor." Does anyone know the name of this episode, who wrote it or the full contents of the poem that was recited?"

"Can you help me? I remember some scenes and dialogue (but not the full plot) in a episode of a show that aired around 1978 or 1979. I DO NOT REMEMBER WHAT THE SHOW WAS CALLED; COULD I JUST BE IMAGINING ALL THIS? OK, here goes: A boy on the show wants some hot chocolate, and when his mom goes to make some for him, she sees that her older son (Chris) has drunk all the milk. "Chris" then replies, "Just use water." Again, I do not remember what this show was called, and want to know if you know, or if I am perhaps just imaging it. But I would not have made up such a gag line if I were writing for TV, so perhaps I didn't imagine it. I appreciate any help you can give me."
